Storyline

A fashion designer approaches Hammer for some help but she is murdered before she can explain what she wants. A criminal, Kenny the Knife, Hammer had put away had just been paroled and had sworn revenge so it is believed Hammer was the target. However, Hammer investigates the fashion house anyway. Another attempt on his life brings the attention back to Kenny. A chance sighting at the race track changes the focus of Hammer's investigation back to the fashion house when one of the suppliers is in debt to a mob bookie. It also seems to be that there is money disappearing and it is up to Hammer to find who is committing the fraud. It turns out that the reason people are dying is much bigger. Written by jem

I woke up with heartburn so bad you can fry an egg on my chest

***SPOILERS*** Private eye Mike Hammer, Stacy Keach,, ends up going from the frying into the fire in this "Mike Hammer" episode by getting involved in what at first seems like a cased of industrial espionage and murder in the fashion industry. It's when a client of Hammer's Nancy Madden, Leigh Lombardi, was gunned down in his office with a cyanide laced bullet just as she was about to explain the reason she came to see him. At first feeling that the bullet that killed Nanccy was meant for him Hammer suspects that it was the work of just released convict Kenny "The Knife" Timothy Carey, who by accident murdered Nancy. Kenny had swore that as soon as he released he's going to settle the score with Hammer for having him put behind bars.

As Hammer soon finds out the murder of Nancy Madden was no accident and the reason is something that will put the security of the USA as well as the free wold in mortal danger. As Mike Hammer checks out all the clues behind Nancy's murder he realizes that he's stepping on some big toes who can have him iced at any moment without anyone as much as missing him. This all leads to the revelation that the late Nancy's company of fashion design was being used to smuggle military grade computer chips out of the country and sent to of all paces or nations the Soviet Union!

****SPOILERS*** Doing his duty for his country, the USA, Hammer hammers away at who's responsible for this treason that leads to non other then the late Nancy Madden' big brother toy manufacture Paul Madden, Linden Chiles, who's been using her clothing to smuggle the chips out of the country and to the USSR. Wild final scene a lot like in the 1947 Orson Well's classic "Lady from Shanghi" as Mike Hammer corners Paul Madden in this hall of mirrors as he ends up shooting at images but not the real Mike Hammer until all his ammunition, some two or three clips, runs out together with his luck.
