Did You Know?

Suzy Keeler: You know how jealous Bells is, Pops, he won't listen. I got in a jam a long time ago before we were married. Johnny Jersey found out about it. He threatened to tell Bells.
McCaffrey: Well, suppose... suppose I talk to Johnny.
Suzy Keeler: No. He wants two hundred dollars so he can marry Rosa.
McCaffrey: Well, that's not all the money in the world.

***SPOILERS***Taking some time off and munching on a Nathan's hot dog at Coney Island Mike Hammer, Darren McGavin, comes to the aid of pretty Suzy Keeler, Dorothy Provine, who's being hassled by this goon Johnny Jersey, I guess that's where he comes from, played by Tommy Se7en. It's Johnny who claims that she owes him $200.00 in bets he booked for her that she lost at the racetrack. Hammer doing his good deed for the day puts Johnny in his place, by working him over, but Suzy's husband Bells, James Garvin, who works at the Coney Island strong-man site ambushes Hammer from behind and puts him to sleep. Bells mistook Hammer for Johnny thinking he was messing with his old lady and then Bam! The problem for Hammer now is not the beating that he took but that his gun has gone missing and may very well end up in someone else's hands to commit a crime with it.

Like what soon turned out to be the murder of Bells who was found shot to death with Hammer's gun in his wife Suzy's dressing room at the Colney Island Wax/Horror Museum. The fact that Johnny was suspected of murdering Bells, by Mike Hammer, is that Bells worked him over far worse then Hammer did when he found out that he was the one giving his wife Suzy a hard time. As things soon turned out it wasn't either Johnny or Hammer, who's the #1 suspect in Bells murder, who killed Bells but someone entirely out of the loop, in the Hammer Johnny & Bells matter, who did it more for love then for anything else. And Hammer had to find out who this guy is before he's arrested in the murder of strong-man site owner Bells!

***SPOILERS*** Hammer working against time does come up with not only who killed Bells but who framed him, by using Hammer's gun to murder him and frame Hammer for his murder. Catching the killer flat footed Hammer tries to lower the boom on him only to have him escape in the Wax/Horror Museum where like in the film "Lady from Shanghai" with the hall or mirrors scene he used the props, of historical serial murders, in the museum to his advantage to make his getaway. Only that one of them, with Hammer accidentally stepping on the button to activate it, backfiring on him and ended up giving him the ax!
