Tubbs goes inside
27 April 2012 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Things start happily enough with Tubbs having a great time with his new girlfriend... before the opening credits she is dead; caught in the crossfire in a gunfight between a major dealer and what appears to be a rank amateur. It turns out the 'amateur' is a guard at the local prison and it looks as though he isn't the only guard dealing. They aren't just dealing either; anybody in the prison who gets in their way finds themselves dead. In order to expose what is going on Tubbs goes into the prison posing as a dealer... it isn't long before people are taking an interest in him. It looks as though his plan is working and a deal is set up... then he gets made for a cop; if the team can't get to him quickly Tubbs is a dead man!

During the opening moments of this episode I thought it was going to be a lighter instalment; it quickly became apparent that it was in fact going to be one of the more serious instalments. That isn't too say there were no laughs; it was pretty funny seeing Izzy working as a male stripper! Once inside the prison there was a constant sense that Tubbs was in real danger both from his fellow inmates and the guards. Guest stars included Ron Perlman who played the prison commissioner and Laurence Fishburne who had a more important role as one of the corrupt guards. Away from his partner's spot light Philip Michael Thomas got to shine as Tubbs putting in a fine performance as a man in a genuinely dangerous position; Edward James Olmos also go a chance to show how good he is and how his character is really the coolest in the show!
