Nazis in Miami
8 May 2013 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

This episode opens rather mysteriously with a scene featuring an old man in a locked room; clearly petrified that somebody is trying to get in to do him harm; the action cuts back to him occasionally during the show but it is some time before we learn who he is and why he is afraid. After seeing the old man the action moves to a coffee house where three brothers are discussing their illegal business; shortly after one of them leaves somebody enters the shop and guns everybody down. It is naturally assumed that this was a drugs hit and other people killed there were just 'collateral damage'; this idea is reinforced when the surviving brother says that he things the killer was part of a rival group that has been attacking the competition. It looks like he was right when those men are stopped during there next attack; the problem is they have a cast iron alibi. Soon another hit takes place; this time an elderly couple are amongst the dead… both holocaust survivors like the coffee shop owner. It turns out all three of them were due to give evidence against one of the camp guards now living in Miami. Neo-Nazis are suspected so Crockett and Switek go undercover in an attempt to catch them before they can get to the other witnesses living in the city.

When this episode opened with the old man I thought it might turn out to be a little bit too strange but once the story got going things got interesting. There were plenty of suspects; just as one was cleared another seemed to emerge and the way the suspected motive changed was well handled. There was some solid action which included quite a lot more bloodshed than occurred in earlier series. It was of course necessary to suspend ones disbelief a bit… it seemed unlikely that a Nazi war criminal and all those who could give evidence against him would be in Miami. Overall I'd say this was a good episode; one of this season's better instalments.
