Crockett ties the knot

When Crockett is given to job of protecting singer Caitlin Davies, who is testifying against her corrupt manager, Tommy Lowe, he isn't happy to be given what he considers to be a babysitting job. When they meet he feels that his views of spoilt rock stars have been vindicated especially when he ends up driving her to her studio and taking her to dinner. What he doesn't realise is that Lowe is determined not to do time and if that means having Caitlin killed then so be it. A trio of assassins strike as Sonny and Caitlin are leaving dinner; Sonny shoots one and they escape by boat with the other two chasing. His boat stops after being hit and Sonny shoots this assassin too while the third flees. Stranded in the boat, Sonny and Caitlin start talking and eventually fall into each others arms. It isn't long before Sonny is introducing his son to Caitlin and by the end of the episode they are married! Lowe meanwhile is murdered by those who fear he could implicate them and it is uncertain whether they consider the matter closed or whether Caitlin is still in danger.

After the previous episode, which was a real stinker, this one is a marked improvement. The story itself isn't that deep but it does serve to bring Sonny and Caitlin together. Singer Sheena Easton did a decent job as Caitlin although I'm amazed no comment was made about her Scottish accent! I'm intrigued to see how marriage will affect Crockett's character; I just hope that later stories don't try to find ways to shoehorn Caitlin into his other cases. While there are a lot of scenes of Sonny and Caitlin getting to know each other there is also some decent action in the form of the shootout at the restaurant and a boat chase. Overall I was relieved that this was much better than the last episode but still didn't think this was classic Miami Vice.
