A glimpse of what's to come.

The second half of season one is slightly improving. And show signs of how addictive the series will become soon. The dead weight characters and storylines, are dealt with, and the plot involves more mature topics. Like in The Test, which is about AIDS. The tone and conclusion still feel like an after school special. But the acting was good, and you really got into the stories. First, Jake and Jo's angst and way of reevaluating their lives, after learning they might have caught HIV. I wasn't found of Perry, the first time she was introduced, but there she was ok. And Allison and Billy's workplace drama. With Amanda showing her true colors, and Billy having to deal with both his boss and colleague hidden agendas. Rhonda is pretty much gone from the show at that point, and it's no big bother for me. Like I said, she and Sandy were too bland to be developed. Apart from one or two scenes, I also don't find a lot of appeal with the Matt character this season. And look forward to more Kimberly getting between Michael and Jane. Who are clearly not following the same path anymore. Even if it's always sad to see a marriage fall apart, even then, writers had different things in mind for these characters. I love that they chose Annie Lennox for the soundtrack of this episode. Why was the perfect song to be featured during Jake's confession to Matt, then Jo.

The Test (#1.27)

Warning: Spoilers
Ex girlfriend of Jake shows up saying that she has AIDS. Jake tells it to Jo and they go to get a test. Luckily it is negative. Billy lies on his resume and gets a job to write a column. Alison wants to have her job back and Lucy agrees but Amanda who decides who gets the job isn't so welcoming. Lucy at the end makes her take Alison back.

The story about the HIV test was very good. It had some moments that seem to be dedicated to teach young people that it is important to get tested because an adult like Jake would not have the stupid idea that it is better not to know. But it is well done even make us think it is positive for a moment during Jake's dream. His talk with his ex at the end was also good.

Billy showing up with the flowers to get a job was a pretty fun moment. Let's see how it goes.

Alison getting her job back was also well done. Amanda trying to pretend she still has a relationship with Billy was kind of pathetic and may lead to something interesting.
