The new year's episode.

Warning: Spoilers
1996 was off to a great start, with episodes like these. Both Melrose Place and Beverly Hills, 90210, were on a roll. And so were their New Year's Eve special. But Melrose Place had the juiciest drama. And a lighter tone this season, to maybe help tolerate all the foul play more. First, Jane is paralyzed on the side, and moves to the beach house, with Michael and Sidney. Then Brooke lies about losing the baby. Which led to Billy dumping her (finally) and her committing suicide (finally?). But as we all know, it's not in a pool, and writers were not done with her yet. So she has other things to suffer through, before her pathetic exit. That being said, the Billy/Alison ship has already sailed, so maybe they kept her around, to also keep the Billy character relevant. Kimberly is helping Sidney covering her tracks, and it's always a pleasure to see her pit herself against Michael. To me, the thing that destroyed the end of season 4, was her split personality plot. That had her committing Peter, and randomly running a whole mental hospital staff. It was too far fetched, even for this show. Amanda switching between Peter and Bobby, added to the appeal for upcoming episodes. As for Matt, he finally gets a good storyline, and Jake (who got owned once again, by someone he hardly knew, but trusted with his life) is a walking talking support group. Jo and Richard are DOA. They even used a Meat Loaf song, to kick start this second half of season, on the TV version. Great episode.

Holy Strokes

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is not one of my favorites. It is quite strange, there is also an animated series called Holy Strokes. I'm unsure if it has anything to do with this episode, but I found the Holy Strokes cartoons on the web.

In theory, I wonder about Brooke's ability to raise a child. I think if Brooke had told Billy the truth about her pregnancy in the first place, Jane would never have had that stroke. Holy Strokes! I think she did not miscarry though, I think she had the child in a secret location, probably a C-Section. The event of slitting wrists is just an obvious ploy to deceive us from knowing that her child is being raised elsewhere--don't worry, it will come back!
