Pat Hingle: Dr. Scott Farring

Quotes

  • Dr. Scott Farring : Joe, I know I am slowing down but I still have my mind, my hands, my medical instinct. If I'm not allowed to use them, I'm nothing.

  • Dr. Scott Farring : I believe maybe you're more worried about this operation

    [fiancee's mastectomy]

Dr. Scott Farring : than Libby is.

    [pause]

Dr. Scott Farring : Or, is it the result that upsets you?

    [loss of a pretty 18-year old's]

    Dr. Scott Farring : [Lynne Marta's / 'Libby''s]  beautiful breast] .

Jimmy Cole : Well, uh, I can think of more attractive things.

Dr. Scott Farring : So can I. Like Libby's smile; her eyes; those plans you two are making... . I believe there might be time for you to see her before she goes into the operating room, if you want to.

[Jimmy acts on the suggestion and meets Libby's gurney en route to her life-saving, disfiguring procedure; smiles, kisses her hand and walks beside her]

  • Dr. Scott Farring : You know something, Joseph? You get more like me every day

[opines the senior citizen surgeon and survivor of Gannon's heart transplant procedure]

Dr. Scott Farring : . By the time you're my age you're gonna be just as feisty and stubborn and as impossible as I am.

[Farring enters elevator leaving Gannon in corridor]

Dr. Scott Farring : I'm going down to see Libby.

Dr. Joe Gannon : Don't take too long - you're needed for consultation today.

    Dr. Scott Farring : Needed?

    [inquisitive, optimistic tone]

    Dr. Joe Gannon : Needed.

    [firmly, with nod of head]

Dr. Scott Farring : Very well, young man; I'm always available. Just make sure you don't interfere with my nap

[said tongue-in-cheek with bright, happy music from composer John Parker underscoring Act IV and show's conclusion showing elevator door closing; Gannon smiles, turns and walks away. Fade Out]
