This was the final appearance on the show for both Susan Saint James and Nancy Walker. Saint James left that show due to a contract dispute and Walker signed a contract with ABC.
Last episode as "McMillan and Wife". The series would continue for one more season as just "McMillan".
Interestingly, a few months after this episode aired Nancy Walker and William Daniels would co-star together in Walker's post McMillan & Wife (1971) series The Nancy Walker Show (1976). Doubly interesting is the fact that just like in this episode Daniels played a naval officer on Walker's show.
The hallway of the Navy offices is the same one used in the prior "Secrets for Sale".
As the final episode of McMillan and Wife, this was also a pilot of sorts as the series' producers searched for a new plot line with which to continue the series after the sudden departures of both Susan Saint James and Nancy Walker. When it returned the following fall, the show was reitled "McMillan," and rather than follow the exploits of Rock Hudson on JAG duty, storylines continued in the mystery vein, with Mac now being a widower and Mildred's wacky sister Agatha (played by Martha Raye) taking over maid duties in the McMillan household.
