This rumor has some long legs.
29 October 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This episode is quite amusing as a rumor, started by Gruber, gets out that the men from PT 73 are going to test a new weapon that may end the war. What has really happened is that Tinker is trying to date a nurse named Betsy. But Betsy is more inclined to date men that live dangerously. Tinker has not been on many missions and therefore is not the light of Betsy's eye. So Gruber starts the rumor saying that the crew, including Tinker, may not return from this extremely dangerous assignment.

After some misunderstandings, Binghamton does not want McHale hogging all the glory of the secret weapon. So he orders McHale to deliver a refrigerator to a local Admiral on a nearby island. But the rumor has legs, even the Japanese army has heard of the secret weapon. When McHale starts out with the refrigerator, the 73 is a marked boat for the entire Japanese war machine.

This was an entertaining story that was well played by all involved. Was glad to see some of the co-stars, in this show Billy Sands, gets some time in front of the camera as the story centered around him and his acting ability. And nothing could be as funny as when Binghamton tells Carpenter that he will be right beside him on a dangerous mission, in spirit. Good watch.
