Politics being what it is and what with the high price of beef............

This particular McCloud story had a large guest star cast in a case where McCloud is sent on an extradition assignment to a small Colorado county where Sheriff Claude Akins is holding a suspect that the NYPD and Marshal Sam McCloud says murdered someone, in particular a US Department of Agriculture meat inspector.

But Akins has in own agenda going. The perpetrator is connected to a cattle rustling ring that is robbing the ranchers blind in the area. And Akins wants the voters to see he's on the job because as sheriff he's an elected official.

So after the prisoner is busted loose Akins has McCloud thrown in jail on some flimsy pretext. Of course that doesn't help J.D. Cannon's ulcer one bit. But McCloud manages to get himself an ally in Akins's deputy John Denver. They get to the bottom of things.

The guest stars are really loaded into this story. Among others are Vic Tayback, Patrick Wayne, Ed Ames and Farrah Fawcett before she became a star with Charlie's Angels. Farrah and Ronda Copland play a couple of bar girls looking to part McCloud and John Denver with their money as they go undercover as a pair looking to join the rustling business.

This was an enjoyable story made enjoyable by a great cast of seasoned professionals.
