Ben goes up against a serial killer.
The premise and setup were interesting. You kind of know Spiedel was going to be the culprit from the very beginning given he was so ott lovey-dovey with Patricia. Ben's accountant, Leo, is accused and Ben becomes his defence lawyer. But the story took a bizarre turn, in fact, a twist. As we see that Spiedel is setting himself up to be a suspect. Huh? Spiedel is clever. He's a serial killer known as "the Strangler," who resents successful men. He is a narcissist/psychopath and his murderous actions are probably triggered by his flunking out of Harvard Law School. He wants to prove he is smarter than successful men and humiliate them. His actual target is Ben who also went to Harvard Law School. Patrica, the poor lady, was collateral damage. He sets himself up so he can produce proof in court that he did not kill Patricia. His cleverness was in making it look like his killing of Patrica was a copycat killer. When it was him, "the Strangler." Even the top detective in the case had immediately ruled that it was a copycat killer.
Ben was confused at first by Spiedel. Not understanding when he was so sure he "got him" on the witness stand. Conrad later discovers a key clue which then leads Ben to believe Spiedel is the actual serial killer.
It was so satisfying seeing Ben outwit Spiedel. First when Spiedel tried to kill him and then later in court. I mean Ben was absolutely smug and enjoyed every moment of it. He deserved to be this way given that he was Spiedel's target and Spiedel did indeed try and kill him. It was so satisfying to see Ben get him. Lol. That's how I like to leave off a show, feeling satisfied.
The was a lot of humour with Ben regarding his taxes and his housekeeper and with Leo. Which kept a nice contrast in the episode with the darker subject matter. A little weak, I think when the police said Spiedel trying to kill Ben and essentially admitting he was the serial killer, while the police were there, and everything was recorded, wasn't enough to charge him for the serial killings and Patricia's killing, thereby getting Ben's client off. I know this is a setup by the writers so that they could show Ben in the courtroom questioning Spiedel. Yet I loved the ending and Ben was great! 9/10.
