Part of the story takes place in the "River Rock Casino Resort". In many shows like "CSI", a named Casino is usually a fictitious one. But this is a real Casino - the River Rock Casino Resort, in Richmond Canada. What confuses some viewers is that there is another Casino named "River Rock Casino Resort" in Geyserville, California, U.S.A.

Spoilers

The trivia item below may give away important plot points.

John Landis asked his son Max Landis to write the script. Max then sent him a book about crypto-zoology with several creatures bookmarked. John chose the Deer Woman, a Native American legend similar to a succubus. Later, John asked Max to change two things in the script. First, he said that the creature couldn't be killed. To this Max supposedly responded, "But you killed the werewolf!" (In reference to An American Werewolf in London (1981).) John then replied, "Yeah, but I made up the werewolf." Second, John said there needed to be a seduction scene. Max refused, and John threatened to put his own name alongside Max's as a writer. Max still refused, and this ended up happening, which John admits to regretting, since he barely wrote any of the material at all.
