Rod Taylor: Mr. Lavender

Quotes

  • Mr. Lavender : This is Robert Anderson, the highest ranking traitor in NIA history. He's trained terrorists, he's sold secrets to our enemie, he's been responsible for the deaths of at least twenty American agents.

  • Casey Collins : Well, you worked with Anderson, didn't you?

Mr. Lavender : I trained him. And I trusted him. That's why I've been picked to bring him back.

  • Mr. Lavender : Next, Ted and Jolene Carson, owners of a gym in Kansas City. This Anderson has always been a fanatic for physical fitness. We're gonna use that vanity to sink him.

  • Mr. Lavender : This is Robert Anderson, the American traitor you've heard about. Now, he's put together a bunch of mercenaries headed by this man, Major Karl Volker, a former officer in the South African Army. Now he's soldiered for years for anyone who would pay him: Khadafy, the P.L.O., even Idi Amin. He's a very nasty fellow.

  • Mr. Lavender : But together we're gonna stop these people from destroying a free little country that's right on our doorstep.

Dr. Hansen : Mr. Lavender, wouldn't it be easier to just arrest them?

Casey Collins : We have no jurisdiction in the high sea. Also, we have to find out who the traitors are in St. Julien, and in order to do that, we have to let Anderson put his plan into operation.

Mr. Lavender : You see, before the Caribbean Holiday docks, we're gonna make sure Cienfuegos firmly believes that Anderson berayed him, just like he betrayed us. I want to thank you again, and welcome to Operation: Masquerade.

  • Joan Drexel : What's that stuff about the "unnamed Balkan faction"?

Mr. Lavender : It's an intelligence term dating back to the nasty OSS days.

Joan Drexel : Oh. What does it mean?

Mr. Lavender : Somebody you have to work with in a dangerus situation but otherwise despise.

Joan Drexel : Does that happen often?

Mr. Lavender : Oh, it happens. The unnamed Balkan faction is you murder your enemy and sleep with his woman.

Joan Drexel : Lavender, do you ever think of getting into something nice, like real estate?

Mr. Lavender : [shudders]  Too risky.

  • Mr. Lavender : Each and every one of those men want to kill you. And inside or outside a prison one of them is gonna kill you. The authorities here in St. Julien are willing to extradite you and let me take you back to the United States.

Robert Anderson : What do you really want from me, huh?

Mr. Lavender : I want to take you back, pal. It's been just too long. I want you to stand judgment by your own people - Americans.

Robert Anderson : I could spend the rest of my life in prison, huh?

Mr. Lavender : Maybe. But that's life. You go down that gangplank, that's death.
