Storyline

A high school teacher named Bill Swanson molests one of his male students named Ted. Ted is injured and requires surgery, and when Welby realizes that Ted was raped, he tries to ask for information about what happened. Ted, however, refuses to name his assailant. In the end, Ted does speak, Welby tips off the police and Swanson is arrested while attempting to seduce another student. Swanson is jailed, then sent to a mental institution.

This episode sparked nationwide protests because of its negative portrayal of homosexuality and its conflation of homosexuality and pedophilia. Seventeen ABC affiliates refused to air it and at least 11 advertisers refused to sponsor it. ABC withdrew the episode from its summer rerun schedule as a result.
