Late one night, Joe Mannix is surprised by Gen. Alec Holt, his former commanding officer in Korea, now a good friend and vice-president of Coronet Electronics. He tells Mannix that he is being blackmailed by a photographer who has pictures of him in a compromising position, and gives Mannix $10,000 to buy the film. Mannix makes the exchange but then is jumped by two thugs. Although he manages to escape, a return visit from the two thugs and Gen. Holt's refusal to explain why the two men want the film leads Mannix to believe that the case involves more than evidence of an extramarital affair. Written by aldanoli

Andrew Duggan, Tom Drake and Ed Lauter make this worth seeing.
22 December 2014 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

This episode of "Mannix" has a much better than usual list of supporting players. It stars Andrew Duggan--a very, very familiar and strong character actor who made a bazillion TV appearances during the 60s and 70s. Also included are the movie star Tom Drake ("Meet Me in St. Louis") and it marks Ed Lauter's TV debut. Who is Lauter? Well, check out his picture and you're bound to recognize him. After all, he had over 200 credits to his name! Together, these three alone make it well worth seeing this one.

The show begins with the General (Duggan) coming out of the shadows (literally) to hire Mannix to recover some incriminating photos. However, Mannix's troubles result in being bashed over the head (for the 300th time) and nearly killed. Through the course of the rest of the show, it becomes obvious that the photos of the General having an extra-marital affair is just a ruse--there's far more to the photos than that!

Apart from an ending which relies too much on an almost impossible shot by Mannix (using a snub-nosed .38 he makes a shot that would impress an Olympic shooter!), the show is exciting and well worth your time. Yet another better than average show from this long- running series.
