Storyline

A jeweler whose shop is located near Mannix' detective agency is murdered, and in the crowd outside the murder scene, Mannix runs into Bill Chase, a buddy from his days in the Korean War. Chase tells Mannix he's in trouble and asks Mannix to visit the small mountain town where he serves as a fire ranger so he can tell Mannix about his situation. Within a short time of his arrival in the town, however, Mannix finds a deepening mystery, as he's shot at, injured falling down a hill, and learns that the woman who claims to be Chase's wife is a completely different woman. Goofs

Hal K. Dawson's character, the jeweler, is mistakenly called "Kessler" in the end credits despite the fact that both Mannix and Police Officer Carlos call him "Kester" and the fact that his name appears in bold letters as "Aaron Kester" on the door to his business at the beginning of the episode. Decent and entertaining but with one big flaw and a few minor ones.

The show begins with the murder of a jeweler near Mannix's office. Mannix arrives and soon sees an old army buddy, Bill, in the crowd. This friend is very cryptic but asks Joe to see him out in the country about some problem. However, when he arrives, a FAKE wife tells Mannix to go up some mountain road--and Mannix is nearly killed. When he returns with the Sheriff a bit later, a DIFFERENT woman meets them--Bill's real wife! What's going on here? And why did Bill need to see Mannix? For a while, this is a confusing episode--and that's what Mannix is experiencing too. It's a strange case and one that features a lot of action....and murder. Because of these things, it is an exciting show. As for the crime and the motive...well, they are very unique! Overall, an entertaining episode but one with a pretty big flaw--why did Bill happen to be in Los Angeles at that particular jewelry store right next to Mannix's place? Too coincidental, that's for sure. And what's with the hot-headed Sheriff?! What?
