Illya becomes a mummy!
23 May 2010 | by (Ambrosia) – See all my reviews

Having survived Alexander's death traps in Greece, Solo and Kuryakin head back to the States, where their quarry has joined forces with the Red Chinese, who want to take over an Asian state. At a high class gym known as 'The Grecian Urn', Solo has a run-in with the muscular Ingo ( Cal Bolder ). Illya traces the madman to a farm in Virginia, and is almost cut into pieces by farm implements, before being handed over to Kavon ( David Opatasho ) for mummification. Alexander is going to break 'Thou Shalt Not Kill' by murdering the Japanese President ( Teru Shimada, later to play 'Mr.Osatu in 'You Only Live Twice' ) at a function...

Not as good as the previous episode, mainly because the villain's master plan - sticking a knife in someone's chest - is mundane. One might have hoped he would have found an imaginative use for the B.G.3.0. will gas capsules. He does not. Kavon turning against Alexander at the end is a little contrived too.

Cal Bolder was the henchman in a later Season 2 episode - 'The Bridge Of Liona Affair'. He also played the monster in 'Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter' ( 1966 ).

There's a lovely moment as henchmen Parviz ( David Sheiner ) is fatally wounded by Illya before being driven off with a party of wedding guests. As someone realises he is dead, there is a scream. A well-wisher says to Illya: "I knew it wouldn't last!".

One of my favourite spy clichés - the taxi that knocks out its passenger with gas - surfaces here.

For 'One Spy Too Many', Yvonne 'Batgirl' Craig was added as Waverly's luscious niece 'Maude'. Gerald Fried's score for this episode is one of his best.
