Warning: Spoilers
A rather sad episode with Albert Salmi turning in a good performance as the somewhat dim Will Turner, a man who might have what Shenandoah longs for: a farm, a wife, a history.

On this cattle drive, it may be possible the men are going to be cheated of their wages. Shenandoah is the trail boss; and when the sheriff introduces the problem, Shenandoah promises the men they will be paid. Shenandoah takes some of the men into town with him but also wants to see a silversmith who might know who he is. Will Turner accompanies Shenandoah as he goes to visit the silversmith. The silversmith is out but will be back in a few hours; at the shop, Will sees a music box he wants for his wife. And as soon as he has the five dollars due him as part of his hundred dollar wages, he intends to buy it.

While Shenandoah is doing what he can to settle the wage issue, Will decides he is going to take the music box regardless of pay. Will takes the music box but accidentally kills the silversmith and heads off for home. When Shenandoah discovers what happened, he takes off after Will.

Arriving at Will's ranch, Shenandoah discovers that Will's wife is close to a 180-degree change from Will's description. She is bitter and angry over her home life; she resents Will for taking her from town to live in what she sees as a dump; she fears her fading looks mean she soon won't be attractive to men, and she likes men. Shenandoah finds Will in the barn where his wife has consigned him to live with the other animals. Will had hoped the present of the music box would help his wife to love him; but he admits he loves her far more than she could care for him.

The sheriff arrives to take Will in but runs and is shot in the back. Shenandoah has now lost a friend and with the death of the silversmith, a clue to his identity.

For fans of Westerns, this episode is worth a watch as is the series.
