An outbreak of woodworm
9 August 2010 | by (Ambrosia) – See all my reviews

Chrissy and Jo are playing darts, using a board with a photo of Roper ( presumably taken at a Christmas party ) stuck on it. The board is hanging on the door to Robin's room, a fact he becomes acutely aware of when next he opens it. Chrissy's dart hits his guitar. He then decides to give her a lesson in dart throwing ( basically an excuse to stand as close to her as possible ). His dart strikes the door.

Spotting this and other similar holes, Roper thinks the flat must be woodworm infested, and hires his 'odd job man' friend Jerry ( Roy Kinnear ) to get rid of the perishers. While his mate coats every wooden object in the place with a special varnish, Jerry helps himself to a bottle of Scotch ( which, as it turns out, belongs to Larry ). Robin and the girls face the awful prospect of spending the night downstairs with the Ropers...

After an absence of two episodes, Johnnie Mortimer returns, as does Roy Kinnear as incompetent 'Jerry'. Quite a bit naughty this episode, with the word 'lesbian' mentioned twice ( and by the girls ), Jerry describing Roper as a 'tit', and Mildred telling George she found him 'playing with himself the night before' ( she's referring to his board game ). The board game George plays is 'Escape From Colditz', which was very popular at the time. The lid of the box has been altered so that the words 'From Colditz' cannot be read. Thames obviously not wanting to promote a B.B.C. show.

Funniest moment - Larry is about to have his wicked way with his girlfriend when he goes downstairs to get back his Scotch. Not only has Jerry drunk most of it, but there is another shock in store for him - his date is Jerry's daughter!
