Maigret's Boyhood Friend
Prismark105 January 2023
Léon Florentin (Edward Petherbridge) is looking for Maigret. He claims to be an old school friend of his. Madame Maigret reconcile the old pals.

Only Maigret does know Léon but as a reprobate. A lying sponger who is always in trouble and he has found it right now.

Murder, his mistress who shot to death and he had been hiding in the wardrobe when it happened.

It transpires that the dead woman had four other lovers, all of them who turned up on an allocated evening each week.

Apart from Léon, they unaware that she had other lovers.

Maigret finds himself interrogating these men, some of who are shocked that the money they splashed on their mistress also went to Léon's upkeep.

Maigret is not willing to discount Léon himself, especially when blackmail rear its ugly head.

Petherbridge initially plays Léon as a comedic and a pathetic figure. A middle aged loser but always a hint that he is also a sly opportunist.

This is very much an old fashioned mystery, almost like an Agatha Christie story. All the suspects are even brought together.
