Surprised no reviews for this episode. We truly get to see Magnum at his best in this episode, both as a detective, as a friend, and as a bad ass military machine. The stakes are extremely high and it's great to see Magnum switch from his baseball fan self to his Navy training. Honestly the ending of this episode made me realise that even though Magnum seems like a fun loving guy, actually he can be a deadly soldier when he needs to be. A total classic episode in my book!

We know in the back of our minds someday the end will come for not just us but to the people in our lives. However we always think that day is a long ways away but it can sometimes be a lot closer than you think.
This is one of the saddest episodes I've ever seen, as a kid it actually made me cry, Tanaka was one of my favorite supporting characters in the show so you can understand how I feel.
In the first part of the episode there is this sense of dread you have for Tanaka as he is working undercover on a certain drug busting case but we can see he's having some sort of misgivings. I like that talk he has with Magnum about the concept of going off book, how it can be kinda scary sometimes which I agree because the thing about going off book is that despite how flexible it can make you and the best and fast quality results it can produce it doesn't make you bulletproof.
We see as Tanaka is on mission how in the conversations Magnum is having with Rick and T.C. it correlates to what Tanaka is going though. This also builds up the dread as we just have a bad feeling that something is about to go wrong and somehow it's connected with that dream Tanaka had of his past which I felt was a bad omen.
And of course my fears came to pass when we see that the man that killed Tanaka's old partner is back and currently with the drug organization Tanaka's investigating; Tanaka finds this out and tries to escape but it's too late. I'll admit once I saw the scumbag kill Tanaka I was just in shock at the time, it took one or two minutes to register that in my mind. It wasn't until Magnum got the call and you saw the sad look on his face which was my own, it to me made it official Tanaka was dead.
The next half of course we see Magnum is going to finish what Tanaka started. And throughout this investigation we are hopping Magnum will be able to put the pieces together and find that scum bag. I like how the investigation plays out, it's a little similar to "Miami Vice" from some of those final minutes when Magnum is tailing the bad guys trail you hear a music track much as Vice does in every episode. Even the plot line alone is like something out of an episode of Vice since most of the show deals with the war on drugs.
And of course the last moments are great when Magnum take action, he then finds the killer whom tries to make Magnum number three but of course Magnum is the one that earns the inning, so strike three scumbag your out.
The last minutes were touching as we see the big game that Tanaka's nephew Biff trained hard to win for his late uncle has come. And it doesn't disappoint, just as Magnum won so did Biff as we see Biff actually utilize the ideology that Magnum and Tanaka live and play by and actually wins the game.
I'll admit when we see everyone cheering the victory, we then hear the final words that he said to Magnum "Some day, he's going to play for the majors." That moment put tears in my eyes, those words we heard just shows that even though Tanaka is gone his legacy still lives on though Biff, as Biff has not let Tanaka down in this one game he never will in the times of his life, nor will Magnum.
Farwell Tanaka, just like all of the Baseball legends you'll never be forgotten.

Lieutenant Yoshi Tanaka

Kwan Hi Lim makes his final appearance in Magnum, P. I. as the legendary Lieutenant Yoshi Tanaka. He, along with Mac, were memorable supporting characters, and it's a shame Yoshi didn't see it to the very end, but I guess the writers decided to inject much emotion into this eighth season episode.
The baseball scenes were impressive, with the palm trees in the background, unlike the gritty Bad News Bears.
The final line, which was by Lieutenant Tanaka, was very moving and brings back the fond memories of an unforgettable supporting character.
I must admit I haven't seen the Magnum reboot and I'm not really interested in doing so.
