...and a damn fine season finale

Warning: Spoilers
Great way to end season 5 of Magnum. With Magnum spending a large part of the episode in jail, I have the impression his screen time was cut down a bit, giving more time and interactions to the rest of the gang as a whole ("the rest of the gang" meaning Higgins, TC, Rick, Carol and uncle Jack) . This makes the episode feel more like a group effort than might usually be the case and it really works, although it means you might have to pay extra attention to keep track of all the details.

Speaking of uncle Jack, I think Matt Clark is outstanding here. He has a pretty sinister look, with the cadaverous features and very intense stare, which initially made me think he was going to be revealed as the Big Bad. But by halfway through, I was feeling his pain and wondering how his daughter could have treated him so badly. To be honest, I was still wondering that at the end. Was his coming to all her shows at school such a terrible thing that she was willing to become an international arms dealer (stolen arms at that - an even worse idea!) to gain her "independence" from him. Even for a 17-year-old, that's pretty extreme. No more possible reasons are given, so we'll never know.

An innocent man

Warning: Spoilers
Here Thomas Magnum voluntary enters the Oahu Prison Farm which was filmed at the erstwhile communications building/transmitter facility) at Bellows Air Force Station. He does it find a missing girl and it's quite confronting for Magnum understandably.

I wonder if this premise inspired the plotline for An Innocent Man, which starred Tom Selleck in 1989, the year after Magnum, P. I. wrapped up. Maybe so, but I guess there's no copyright on plotlines I guess.

I love the enigmatic titles of some of the Magnum episodes which leaves you wondering what it's all about so you have to watch the whole episode.
