Did You Know?

An obvious irony in the choice of actress for the leading lady --- in the previous MacGyver episode "Lost Love" that also featured Elyssa Davalos, she played an old love-interest of Mac's, and yet is this story, she plays someone whom Mac finds exceptionally incompatible/disagreeable and whom he dislikes working alongside, and thus he feels anything but affection for her. Threads made in wood have to be fairly "coarse" to avoid splintering, so even if the rake had threads to attach its head and handle together, like a broom does, the threads would not be nearly so "fine" as a garden hose has; Mac could not have attached them together just by screwing them into each other. MacGyver: [voice-over narration] A man once said, when you make a friend, you take on a responsibility. And I guess that describes my friend, Danny Barrett. When he invited me to lunch, I should of know there'd be strings attached.

Math & Science Do Prove Useful

MacGyver's insurance investigator friend Danny Barrett (Terry David Mulligan) is killed after hacking into the computer database of a foreign diamond smuggling syndicate hiding behind diplomatic immunity in a consulate. He teams up with the mysterious FBI-trained Nikki Carpenter (Elyssa Davalos) - Barrett's sister to solve the murder and trap the diplomat/ringleader of the smugglers.

The gorgeous Elyssa Davalos - with but a different hairstyle and accent stars as a completely different character than she did in the two-part season premiere a few episodes previous. In that one she played a doomed Soviet defector.

I guess that confirms that the production team behind MacGyver thought the audience for their show was composed of people with the short-term memory of goldfish or that we are fine with seeing different characters played by the same actors. Personally I hate it even when I like the star.

Vancouver became such a popular location for film and TV production in the early 1980s that American production still use it even though there is no evident financial incentive given the parity of the Canadian dollar with the US greenback.

It was such a good place for Canadian actors to get work that even a local disc jockey/TV host like ex-mountie Terry David Mulligan was in demand and took roles. To this day after chewing scenery in various productions American audiences didn't and don't have a clue where he is from or what his fellow Canadians know him for.
