- Army I Corp reports a big storm coming from Manchuria; MASH 4077th can expect heavy winds and temperatures close to freezing. Radar and Col. Potter plot how to batten down the hatches. The water tower is re-unforced. The windows in post op are nailed down. But the storm grounds the chopper which was to take Boston butt to Seoul for his flight to Tokyo, his first R&R. Winchester has reservations in Tokyo, his own King sized bed and a bathroom. Radar and Potter bribe Klinger (with an offer of staying overnight in Seoul) into driving him into Seoul as the tantrums of Boston blow harder than the winds of Manchuria. Hawkeye believes that the storm will cause a temp cease fire and hence the casualties will be down for a while.
Radar loses his guinea pig, Babette. Klinger and Winchester come across an MP who says that a convoy just passed through and they would need 3 hrs to get to Seoul. He redirects them through an alternate route, which Winchester doesn't write down. Soon, the duo are lost. The unlikely duo (Klinger and Winchester) runs across a troop truck of injured Greek GIs; they are lost and Winchester is now sure to miss his flight from Seoul to Tokyo, but they help the Greeks to safety inside their damaged truck. Boston is "too scared" to be left alone, so he and Klinger brave the storm in the makeshift shelter with the injured Greeks. Winchester uses his clothes to make bandages for the injured soldiers. The clothes are 100% silk and even Klinger is pained ripping them into shreds. The field duo pulls out all the stops to successfully remove a plural effusion with no light and primitive tools (the full lung collapses on one of the Greek GIs, and Winchester has to make a perforated incision to allow the lung to expand). Too bad they did not have an Atlas. turns out they were riding around in circles and MASH 4077 was just over a ridge that was right next to their current position. The next morning Klinger goes to check and is able to find the MASh unit without fuss.
Back at the 4077, Margaret feels guilty after Nurse Bigelow (Enid Kent), at whom she just yelled (Bigelow was flirting with Hawkeye when Houlihan had told her to batten down the hatches across the camp), gets into an accident (when the water tower collapses on top of her) requiring Hawkeye to perform surgery. Bigelow has internal bleeding (he thinks it is a ruptured spleen) and Hawkeye had to cut into her to fix it. Margaret is besides herself with panic. She gives the orders ahead of Hawkeye for Bigelow's surgery. Houlihan is very emotional after the surgery.
Hawkeye provides the usual levity to remove the tension and finds Babette hiding under a chair in Postop. Klinger and Winchester return to 4077 with the Greeks and Winchester decides to retire to his room for the remainder of his R&R, calling 4077 his home.
