Newsreels highlight this one-hour special. Minutes mean lives at the M*A*S*H units and reporter, Clete Roberts, has returned to speak again to the 4077 personnel. Everyone is present or in flashback, from Lt. Colonel Henry Blake and Trapper John McIntyre ...even pesky, loveable lug, Major Frank Burns rounds out the current cast as the reporter questions the guys and gals of the 4077. At home, Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, is crowned at age 27, Marilyn Monroe pouts and waves, Joe DiMaggio throws and slugs, Nixon seems to ponder and Albert Einstein and Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion chat in a garden as the Korean War wages. Pres. Truman (Give 'em hell, Harry!) defends US foreign policy, Nixon does "Watergate prequel lite" and DDE promises to go to Korea... while GIs from 16 nations are being wounded and dying. The title is from Winston Churchill's World War II speech about the English efforts against the German attacks on their homeland: "Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour.'" This is one of those episodes that long running TV shows sometimes have. This one is a review of the first seven years of MASH. The editors picked and chose various events we are all familiar with. This is done as a newsreel report, focusing on the conflict in Korea. As each of the principle characters is interviewed, we get flashbacks of these scenes. Hawkeye the complainer and philosopher, B.J. the family man, Radar the organizer, Margaret the sexy nurse and administrator, Charles the arrogant malcontent, Potter the stabilizing force, Klinger the seeker of the Section 8, and the missing, Henry, Frank, and Trapper. It's decent enough, but no two hour review can really capture the whole thing.
