- Wounded Private Kurland (Craig Wasson) learns a painful lesson from the enemy soldier he's critically wounded. Both come into the 4077 MASH where Kurland proudly tells BJ how he shot the North Korean soldier, whom Hawkeye is operating on. Kurland was grazed by a bullet to his scalp, and he lay wounded, the North Korean tried to steal his boots. TO do so, he kept aside his rifle, and that's when Kurland revived and shot him.
In post op, Kurland gives the Nort Korean his blanket when he learns from Margaret that he may have frostbite (Kurland now understands why the North Korean was trying to steal his shoes). Kurland is irritated with the North Korean, and wonders why he is being treated in a US hospital. Klinger distributes chocolate bars to all the patients in post-op. Later, the North Korean gives Kurland his share of the Chocolate for sharing his blanket. The North Korean gets seizures and Hawkeye goes in again, but despite his best efforts the soldier dies. Kurland is sad as now he understands that the enemy was just a guy like him.
The thankless job of charity collection officer passes from one staff member to another. Potter has given the original task to Winchester to collect $10 per officer and $3 per enlisted man. Potter wanted Winchester to do it on payroll day when everyone had cash right in their hands, but Winchester hates the idea of grovelling to anyone for money. But Potter insists that everybody has to do it by turns. Potter says that general Crenshaw is expecting 100% participation in this charity drive. Winchester asks Margaret to take over his job by bribing her with his books. Houlihan is having trouble as well, as people come up with innovative excuses for not having the money. Margaret passes it on to BJ in exchange for darning all his socks. BJ finds that Igor lost a poker game to Rizzo. Igor is himself asking for money. Meanwhile Rizzo has sent home every cent he had, to pay for shoes for his son and new teeth for his wife.
BJ blackmails Hawkeye into taking over by telling him that he would ruin his upcoming date with the nurse from 8063rd, by sending her a picture of BJ's family saying that it is Hawkeye's family. Hawkeye tries to get the nurses to contribute $10 to charity in exchange for going on dates with him. He gets laughed off. The enlisted men simply avoid him and change direction when they see him coming. Hawkeye gives it to Klinger by helping him with some of his chores that earn him a 3 day pass to Tokyo from Potter. Klinger tries asking for contributions at the O club and gets thrown out. Klinger begs Mulcahy to take over by promising to be nice. Mulcahy is outraged when he finds that GIs would contribute to charity by cutting into the orphanage funds. Mulcahy gives the charity book back to Winchester.
Winchester knows he is stuck with an impossible task, so he pays for the entire camp.
