Charles' Loss
3 May 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

A pretty French Red Cross aid comes to the camp. She is refined and interesting and Charles is smitten. He is a Francofile and they stay up all night talking about museums and sights in Paris. He realizes he is in love and she feels the same way. There is no problem in his mind that he has found "the" person after a couple of days, but it is her past that proves to be a problem. He has to search his soul and must act in a way that has to do with his heritage, his family, and his upbringing. This proves to be one of the saddest of the episodes, but it allows us to see how our implicit being overrides our desires. At least they sometimes keep us from happiness.
