- While dealing with a long stretch of surgery duty, Winchester gets addicted to amphetamines. And Radar sets up a mouse race competition between the 4077th and a group of cocky Marine patients.
- There is a big push in the fighting and that means 24 hour surgery sessions. Chuckles is yawning in OR...everyone is exhausted, but Col. Potter says he needs to learn to pace himself. Klinger asks Boston butt if he can prescribe him a pick-me-up; he tells Klinger about amphetamines, uppers or "bennies," as the Bohemians call them. But, he condescendingly tells Klinger he lacks the genetic superiority to be able to handle them. All of a sudden, Chuckles is running, writing and operating virtual rings around the other surgeons and staff. All notice this surge of energy but only bunk mates, Hawkeye and BJ worry when he cannot sleep. His Surliness rebuffs their concern. A few stupid men hurt Radar's feelings and talk down to him when he tries to make light conversation with them in Post Op. The 3 Jarheads are itching to be discharged so they can watch Sluggo, their unit mouse, race at the 4033. Radar is so incensed at the Jarheads' attack on his manhood, he challenges Sluggo with his mouse, Daisy. Everyone at 4077 gets in on the action and bets on Daisy to win. But, Chuckles takes it a step further.—LA-Lawyer
- There is a big push in the fighting and that means 24 hour surgery sessions. Chuckles is yawning in OR and the nurses cant understand what he is saying...everyone is exhausted, but Col. Potter says he needs to learn to pace himself. Klinger asks Boston butt if he can prescribe him a pick-me-up; he tells Klinger about amphetamines, uppers or "bennies," as the Bohemians call them. Injesting 2 of these pills is like taking a 50 BHP engine inside your body. But, he condescendingly tells Klinger he lacks the genetic superiority to be able to handle them (as the pills lead to depression, addiction and chronic fatigue after they wear off). when Klinger leaves Winchester takes a pill for himself. All of a sudden, Chuckles is running, singing poems, writing for the AMA journal (he wrote 27 pages in just under 2 hours) and operating virtual rings around the other surgeons (he even has time to assist the other surgeons) and staff. All notice this surge of energy but only bunk mates, Hawkeye and BJ worry when he cannot sleep. Winchester keeps taking additional pills every few hours and has kept the bottle in his locker at the swamp. His Surliness rebuffs their concern.
A few stupid Marines hurt Radar's feelings and talk down to him when he tries to make light conversation with them in Post Op (They suggest that radar is not Marines materials and wont last 5 mins in the force. They would call Radar if they had to raid a kindergarten class). The 3 Jarheads are itching to be discharged so they can watch Sluggo, their unit mouse, race at the 4033. Sluggo has a 19-0 win-loss record and the marines would not miss it for the world. Radar is so incensed at the Jarheads' attack on his manhood, he challenges Sluggo with his mouse, Daisy.
Everyone at 4077 gets in on the action and bets on Daisy $74.5 to win (Potter is in for $5 and Winchester bets $20. Radar has bet $0.5). But, Chuckles takes it a step further. He sends away Radar on an errand and feeds Daisy one crushed pill of Amphetamine to boost her performance for the big race. Winchester bets another $50 at 10:1 odds offered by the marines. Father Mulcahy bets another $20. Daisy beats Sluggo easy and Radar earns the respect of the Marines. Just after the race, Winchester crashes. His BP and pulse rate shoots up. They suspect Winchester took something to lead to this condition. This is not from long hours and fatigue. BJ and Hawkeye look in his locker to find that he has been taking amphetamines. When Radar comes running about Daisy, Winchester admits to giving the drug to her as well. Radar curses Winchester and tells him to stay away from his animals. BJ and Hawkeye decide to return their winnings back to the marines. Winchester also agrees to return his winnings. Winchester is ashamed for his selfish behavior, but in 3 days time he is back to his normal self.
