***SPOILERS*** M Squad's Let. Det. Frank Ballinger, Lee Marvin,is involved in the dirty business of blackmail and kidnapping with the city wide laundry company "Clean as as Whistle" being shaken down for $85,000.00 or else it would have it's cleaning stores burned to the ground. It's the owner Louise Garrison, Katharine Bard, chicken liveried & wimpy husband Claude, Dean Harens, who want's to give into the blackmailers and, as he says, give them what they want and prevent any farther trouble.

Ballinger rightfully suspects that someone in the company's main office or laundry room is involved with the blackmailers as an inside man and it turns out that ex-con Victor Charbonneau, H.M Wynant, is the #1 suspect. It's Carbonneau who got his job on the recommendation of the company's president Mrs. Garrison's personal secretary Evelyn Rankin, June Dayton, who unknown to her boss, Mrs. Garrison, also has a criminal record!

****SPOILERS**** Things really start to heat or steam up when the gutless crybaby Claude Garrison gets first worked over then kidnapped by the blackmailer or blackmailers that has the FBI now, in kidnapping being a federal crime, get into the act. The end couldn't come any sooner with Det. Let. Ballinger & his partner Chicago police Sgt. Wendell, Duncan McLeod, going undercover in a laundry bin and catching the blackmailer and his partner red-handed. As it turned out***MAJOR SPOILER*** Claude himself was behind this whole crazy scheme to get even with his old lady Mrs. Garrison for treating like a child instead of a husband. Where he's now going to do hard time, 15 to life in the federal pen, the treatment he gets there will be child's-play in comparison.
