***SPOILERS*** Lee Marvin as Chicago police detective Frank Ballinger goes undercover as a member of an bike club to uncover who's been knocking off gas stations in the city of Chicago and escaping on motorcycles into thin air before the police arrive. As Ballinger soon finds out the two bikers Bob Michaels and his gun crazy girlfriend Sally, John Brinkley & Yvette Vickers, have help in getting away by using a moving van as their cover that their bikes are stored in.
With the help of biker club member Lernny Maston, Ed Nelson, who's being used by the two criminal bikers without him knowing it Ballinger gets all the information he needs to track them down and bring the two outlaw bikers to justice. Knowing their escape plan and blocking their getaway car or truck, the moving van, the two gas station robbers commit or try to commit their las gas station robbery before the curtain or heat, police, falls down on top of them.
The already thin and fit looking Lee Marvin was so good playing an outlaw biker looking as if he lost 30 pounds in the what looked like a size 29 pair of bleached dungarees and worn out leather jacket he was wearing while undercover that it for a while was hard to believe that he was a member of the Chicago Police Departmnent but a member of the bike club that he was infiltrating.
