***SPOILERS*** Catching the killer in the act of murdering her American employer Lenore Ashton, Gail Bonney, Norwegian domestic Elas Berksen, Lili Kardell, is afraid to identify Mrs. Ashton's killer feeling that she may well be deported or sent to jail. It's that Elas had a fight with Mrs. Ashton the day before she was murdered over a $500.00 bonus she felt that, in working for her for two years, she justly earned.
It was Mrs. Ashton's husband Walter, Frank Albertson, who found that his cash box was broken into with a duplicate key and $500.00 of the $800.00 missing was found in Elsa's room! Of course there was also the greasy Harry Klorr, Paul Burke, who was actually spotted murdering Mrs. Ashton with a candlestick by Elas who for one reason or another later refused to pick him out of a police lineup! Was Elas actually working with Klorr in this murder/robbery or just scared to death in thinking he would go after her if she picked him out? That if Klorr somehow escaped from police custody after being arrested and put behind bars for Mrs. Ashton's murder?
***SPOILERS*** It's Det. Let. Frank Balinger. Lee Marvin, who brakes the case wide open by getting Elas to go on a date with Klorr who's in fact stalking her and get him to expose himself, by trying to murder Elas, as Mrs. Ashton's killer. The nearsighted Elsa who had first had trouble identifying him was late tipped off to who Klorr is, Mrs. Ashton's murderer, when after having dinner with her he dropped a $50.00 bill to pay the tab. It was one of the fifties that was in Mr. Ashton's safe box that he, after Elas was paid $500.00 by Mrs. Ashton, ripped off before he murdered Mrs. Ashton! As for Det. Balinger he as usual did all the heavy lifting in tracking disarming and apprehending the dangerous and a bit psycho Harry Klorr before he in his attempt to murder Elsa, to keep her from talking,could do any more damage.
