Cast changes wreck the show
Lady Felsham has only been gone 7 episodes, and Eric Catchpole 2, but their absences are glaring.

Losing Phyllis Logan was always going to hurt the show. Lady Jane was nearly as important a character as Lovejoy himself. Cavendish is so dull she puts me to sleep.

But I'm surprised at how much I already miss Eric Jury. His shouting act wore out my nerves, but at least that character had life. The replacement character, Beth Taylor, disappears on screen. It's like the other characters are talking to themselves.

Also, I notice Pavel Douglas, who played Alex Felsham, has very recently updated his profile pic on this site. Somehow that man just gets better looking with age.

Oh, this episode. Um, it barely gets out of the mud. Even Ian McShane looks bored by it all.

I haven't seen a TV show go so far off a cliff since Maclean Stevenson and Wayne Rogers left MASH.
