Love and the Pulitzer Prize -- one of the series's few duds but gets worse
rms125a10 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Love and the Pulitzer Prize was not funny or interesting from the beginning and only gets worse. One of the series's relatively few duds, only Nancy Walker made it watchable. However, the second part, regardless of Walker, with the couple shacked up in a rural cabin-style motel, is horrific. Will Geer as the religious zealot motel desk clerk plays the character very straight and serious. I listened to him. He is scary not funny. Geer did some TV comedy work (Bewitched) in his career but not much. Understandable. There is nothing funny about trying to asphyxiate the couple, and, even worse, setting out bear traps, one of which almost goes off as intended, is NOT remotely amusing or funny. The fact that no one associated with the episode realized this is just inexplicable.
