Not ship shape in any Navy

There are some good science fiction-based episodes in the series, and some good fantasy-based episodes......this one is neither. Long's constant needless bellowing is headache-inducing, and the execution of this episode further cements the opinions expressed by many involving the series: the network and Allen were determined to "out-camp" the "Batman" franchise over at ABC.

God awful!
Sabalon18 July 2018
I've been watching the whole series in order, and so far this is the absolute worst episode. The whole thing seems to be a vehicle for Ronald Long to do his best Brian Blessed impersonation and just yell a lot.

Possibly a Bottom Ten Worst LIS Episode!!!
babyfir7717 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I don't mind if the show gets silly, as long as the storyline and characters are interesting. This one is Nada! Admiral Zahrk is a loud-mouthed blow-hard, supposedly a loose takeoff from Mutiny on the Bounty. It fails miserably here.

This morning I watched this episode twice from my DVD collection. Masochist, you may say!!! The first time was just to watch and re-rate, the second time was to count the number of times Zahrk says "Mr. Kidnoe." What an obsession of this character! Well, the amusing parts of the episode had Dr. Smith renamed Mr. Spindlelegs, the Robot talking like a raspy pirate for a brief moment, Will pointing a gun at a human character (very rare on the show for the lad). But this is far out-weighed by the boring storyline. Sure, shanghaied but do they get anywhere? No, must be traveling in space in slow motion because Professor Robinson sure reversed their traveling quite a while after the alien ship lifted off.

Also Zahrk in general is very irritating (almost down there with the Toymaker). His constant shouting, his stupid sneezing. Like Roseanne Roseannadanna used to say, "It was so funny I forgot to laugh!" It is unfunny.

For you collectors, how to you like the foursome on that DVD disc? Questing Beast, Toymaker, Space Vikings (which I vote as the best of the sorry lot) and this episode. Man, Lost in Space sure hit a dry spell.

Zahrk says or shouts "Mr. Kidnoe" 22 times in this episode!

Makes Batman look like Citizen Kane
bigfrankie-434643 December 2022
Folks, we've hit rock-bottom- Mutiny in Space makes an episode of Batman look like Citizen Kane.

Don't watch this episode unless you simply want to watch every episode.

This is not even just a fantasy or a non-sensical dream. It is a terrible, irritating mess.

You have a blowhard Admiral Zahrk, Mutiny of The Bounty knock-off, that bellows the same idiotic words, and mannerisms, over and over. He does have one good line where he asks Will if Dr. Smith is his grandfather, but other than that, he is painful to watch.

Dr. Smith reaches new depths well beyond buffoonery into idiocy with his dancing and acting like a weakling. Prof Robinson and Major West, in limited roles, are essentially Batman and Robin.

Hamming it up.
darthquincunx3 July 2019
Lost in Space mid season 2 was really poor with a string of some absolutely mediocre episodes and this was one of the worst. Ronald Long hamming it up, an over the top Charles Laughton's "Captain Bligh" impersonation. Fantastically ridiculous.

Weak Mutiny-on-the-Bounty-themed spoof
jamesrupert201425 December 2022
A loud, rotund and anachronistic Admiral (Ronald Long) in search of the mutineers who abandoned him in space shanghais Will, Smith and the robot as part of his obsessive search for the treasonous scallywags. Other than some amusing one-offs (Dr Smith becomes 'Mr. Spindlylegs', the robot affects pirate-speech) this episode has few redeeming qualities. Very little happens so the story gets boring fast, Long's endless Laughtonesque bellowing is tiresome, the 'nautical' themed sets and props look ridiculous, and the humour is juvenile and silly. By now the series was getting pretty formulaic, with stories focussing on increasingly silly 'eccentric' characters.

Mutiny in Space
Scarecrow-8813 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Blustery blowhard, Admiral Zahrk (Ronald Long), lands on Robinson Planet, in need of repairs and a crew so he can go after a mutinous crew led by his nemesis, Mr. Kidnoh. Dr. Smith is currently excommunicated from the Robinson party for a mishap involving his "rainmaker machine" which sent a part that lands into the weather machine, seriously damaging it. Zahrk takes a liking to Will, kidnapping him, wanting the boy to be his midshipman. Meanwhile Robot is Zahrk's steering Quartmaster while nervy Dr. Smith, who reminds the Admiral of Kidnoh, swabs the deck and does menial chores, his nickname, Mr. Spindlelegs. The episode, Mutiny in Space, is what it is. Really lame with full-bore, let-everything-hang out performance from Long, dressed as a Naval Admiral right out of "Mutiny on the Bounty", props you might find on a Naval vessel patrolling the ocean on board Zahrk's space ship. A propulsion part from the Jupiter 2 gives Zahrk the needed device to get his ship off the planet, Will in tow, and it will be up to some brilliant tactical maneuvers for John and Major West to "magnetically reverse" their course in order to possibly rescue the young lad, Smith, and Robot. Robot seems happy as Zahrk's crew member while, of course, Smith is not amused with being ordered around to do chores that might "hinder his delicate back". A mutiny could be the only resort as this obsession to catch Kidnoh seems to have driven Zahrk mad. This episode's value to the viewer will hinge on the hammy characterization of a huffing, puffing, sucking wind Long who is constantly erupting into shouts, barking orders, unable to accept Will's pleas of returning him to his parents and changing course to avoid a solar danger in space. When Zahrk is about to send off a bark, he "builds up steam", letting off a bellowing charge of bluster. Smith is reduced to a clown, yet again, quivering and shaking when Zahrk is near to boss him around…it is a sad sight. This episode is ideal for the loony second season. And it isn't about to get any better thanks to the next episode, considered by many LoS fans as one of the worst of the entire series, "The Space Vikings".

So Let's Play Mutiny On The Bounty
richard.fuller16 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
With Ronald Long as Captain Queeg, yes.

Dr. Smith destroys a valuable piece of machinery the Robinsons' needed to monitor their weather, so they ostracize him.

Poor Dr. Smith.

Funnier to see such mature adults as June Lockhart and Guy Williams giving Smith the cold shoulder, ignoring him, yes.

But even FUNNIER to watch Maureen and Judy doing extremely important work, such as . . . . polishing the little containment tubes they would stand in to be put in suspended animation.

Important women's work.

This episode then gives way to Smith and Will enjoying some comical opera bit on the Bounty with Wolf.

Guest star with the biggest mouth
gregorycanfield4 April 2022
Ronald Long absolutely ruins this episode, with his constant, unnecessary bellowing. The premise of everyone giving Dr Smith the silent treatment is enjoyable. In fact, the whole episode is enjoyable, within its own limits. Everything could have been better, if a more effective actor had played Admiral Zark. Ronald Long was just loud and abrasive. Mr Kidno!!!

I had to comment On This Episode Because of "Fullers" Post
HawksRevenge17 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
What has to be my favorite "LIS" episode from childhood is an episode with Ronald Long doing a tour deforce as Admiral Zahrk who has apparently been chasing Mr. Kidknow throughout the stars because he caused a mutiny on Zahrk's ship This is one of those episodes with Will, Dr.Smith and The Robot that the show is known for. The other members provide support, but are not featured but for a few scenes.

The show here is Ronald Long and what a tour-DE force performance it is from his first second on screen he adds the excitement to an episode that could have been dull with another actor.

Smith becomes Mr. Spindle Legs, and the robot is the quartermaster, and Will has become the midshipman.

This episode is an obvious alternate take on "Mutiny On The Bounty" but it is handled in such an over the top comical way that will send you rolling on the floor!! Next time "Fuller" makes a comment on the IMDb maybe he should mention other things too like the fact that John didn't shave or that Don's uniform was wrinkled(He mentioned everything except what the story was about!

Highly Underrated
jimbotc200624 April 2020
This is one of many highly underrated good, fun and entertaining stories from the better colored season.

It is smack in the meat and the middle of the series, when it was still good, and closer to the beginnings, though much more lighter and humorous by this time.

It is definitely better than the later Season Three poorest of the poor afterthought episodes, when the series was spiraling downward and no longer the same.

No, it is not classic original, and superior black and white Season One, but I will go on to say that if you do not like fun episodes like this one, then you are not really a true fan of classic LOST IN SPACE..
