The Ranger inherits half of a valuable gold mine worth $100,000. The other half is inherited by Englishman Edgar Wellington. Three outlaws read of the inheritance in the newspaper. They know where Wellington is camped and kidnap him. The leader of the gang plans to impersonate the Englishman and claim his half. When one of his companions worries about the Lone Ranger being the other heir, the leader tells him, "I wouldn't care if the other heir was the king of England." Actually, during that time period, Queen Victoria was on the throne and there was no king. When the Ranger meets the phony Wellington in the lawyer's office, he immediately suspects him of being an imposter. But how to prove it and find out what happened to the real Wellington? Earle Hodgins plays Barnaby Boggs, a storekeeper whom The Ranger had reformed from a con man's life a few years before. Hodgins would return the following season in another episode as Barnaby Boggs. He appeared in several episodes, the last two as the colorful character Barnaby Boggs
