The Midnight Rider is terrorizing all of Rock Point, New Mexico with his daring nighttime robberies. The Ranger tells old friend Marshal Bill Cowlings that he and Tonto will go there and investigate. Cowlings sends a telegram to the Rock Point sheriff alerting him to the Ranger's coming. But telegraph operator Deleoy is actually the brains behind the robberies. He uses the information to have The Midnight Rider, Mike Barty, ambush The Ranger. The Ranger is only creased on the head, but it causes temporary amnesia for a few hours. Then Barty, disguised as The Ranger and riding a white horse, robs the Rock Point Bank. Now The Ranger is accused of being The Midnight Rider and he and Tonto are really up against it. Maybe a disguise will help them to smoke out these ruthless and tricky outlaws. The biggest hurdle is proving that there can only be one Lone Ranger. And he is no outlaw! Familiar faces Whit Bissell and Robert Bray are both outstanding in their bad guy roles.
