Storyline

The Cattlemen's Association enacted a law making cattle rustling a felony. Small time rustler's are often lynched while most of the big ranchers get a pass. Earp and Judge Tobin think the law is unfair and applied unequally but when a group of five ranchers file a complaint against fellow rancher Rep Cantwell Earp is forced to arrest Rep. Rep and Mel Doniher have both courted Widow Morrison with Rep winning the contest adding fuel to the fire. Mayor Kelley is afraid of a major fight between the outfits but Earp and Judge Tobin won't back down. Earp asks Mrs. Morrison to help but she tells Earp it is too late as the lines are drawn but everyone is guilty including her and Shotgun Gibbs who rustled his mule Roscoe which Gibbs has told Earp. Earp and the deputies clamp down on the violence but Mrs. Morrison has Rance steal Roscoe. She threatens Gibbs with skinning the mule to prove an altered brand. Gibbs followed by Earp rides to her ranch where the situation comes to a head. Written by Anonymous

Quotes

Wyatt Earp: [Opening Narration] Of all the problems which faced the frontier Marshal, the matter of cattle stealing or rustling was the most dangerous. It was not a crime confined to hoodlums or fly-by-night cattle spreads; many of the biggest cattlemen of the day were involved. To Marshal Wyatt Earp, a rustler was a rustler - big or small. This belief plunged him into the notorious Rep Cantwell case. Dodge City erupted in bitter words and deadly gunfights.
