Storyline

Not wanting to hurt Beaver's feelings when he gives her a tacky blouse for her birthday, loving mother June promises Beaver that she will wear the blouse to a mother's club tea. But June wears another outfit instead, unaware that Beaver's grammar school class will also be at the tea to sing a special song.

A Painful Lesson Learned By June

Boy, I'd had to say this episode contains perhaps the most awkward moment I've ever seen on "Leave It To Beaver." June, not the kids, got caught in a rare lie and really hurt Beaver's feelings. She knows it and the looks on both parties faces is awful - a terrible moment.

It all starts out with June insisting on "no fuss" over her birthday. Of course, we find out she does that about every year but Ward ignores her and makes a fuss....and she seems to like. Who doesn't on their birthday? Well, to make a long story short, Beaver's present to her is not the best. Of course it's recommendation by Larry Mondello. But Beaver liked it, too. It was the tackiest blouse you've ever seen.

What happens to it, and to June and Beaver I'll let you discover but it's a very uneasy scene. This time, June winds up getting the lesson and apologizing to one of her kids.
