Johnny feels that he can help four boys just like Troop helped him when he was their age. When he finds a way to earn their trust, it almost costs him their friendship and $500, which wasn't his money to lose.

Storyline

Matt Hodges brings in four orphans who have killed his milk cow. Since they don't have $40, they are locked up. Johnny feels he was given a chance by Troop and the boys should have the same chance. He convinces Troop to turn them over to his custody and finds them jobs at the stable working for Mr. Lester. They do their jobs but when a fancy pistol is stolen from the gun shop, they are suspected. Johnny decides to test Dean by giving him $500 for Lester that is really Lily's money stored in the Marshal's office. Pete the oldest is still unswayed by Johnny and wants to rob Lester and leave town. When Johnny confronts him and the stolen pistol, the other boys don't go along and Troop provides a helping hand.
