Nat Denning has let his farm run down and his 22 year old daughter Beth run wild. She wants a husband but feels everyone looks down on her. When she rescues a heifer that has come up lame, the son of the trail boss, Roy Grant, gives it to her for a drink and dance at the Birdcage later. While in town Beth is talked into taking a pair of $20 shoes she wants by the clerk Gilly who wants her. He tells her she can pay him $1 per week for them. At the Birdcage she goes wild after two drinks as she is not used to alcohol forcing Lily and Troop to send her home before she causes more trouble. On the way home Gilly stops her and after trying to kiss her she runs away and falls hitting her head. Her dad finds her and brings into town thinking she is dead but she is not. Since she initially can't wake up or speak, Troop arrests Roy Grant. When his dad tries to break him out of jail, Gilly leads the rest of the town against him. Lily is finally able to awaken Beth and learn the truth stopping the potential riot.
