Major Ben Rogers is considered locally to be a hero of the Civil War for his actions at Pell Creek Bridge. However, he is notoriously difficult to work for and in the latest incident uses a bull whip on his cowhand Davey Catterton for breaking an old branding iron. When Davey attempts to buy a gun, Troop intervenes and goes with Davey to collect his wages and belongings. Rogers's wife Cynthia pays Davey but has had enough and decides to leave Ben. When the stage arrives in Laramie, Colonel French steps off and recognizes Ben who has come after his wife. French tells Rogers he is sorry about the court martial Rogers received. When Davey overhears this, he challenges Rogers who reverts to the Civil War battle when he hears the gunshot that wounds French. Rogers takes over the saloon as he re-enacts the battle forcing Troop to bring him back to his senses. Written by
