Storyline

While chasing after two bank robbers, Sam kills one in self-defense. The bank robber's son, Clint, is naturally very upset and threatens to kill Sam. Sam has no choice but to take Clint back to the boarding house where Martha will take care of him. Clint has a lot of anger and is mean to Tess and another boy. Sam stops the fight between Clint and Dave, then talks to Clint about not using a rock as a weapon during a fight. Clint knows the other bank robber and sees him in town. While talking to Sam, Clint informs him he can lead Sam to the bank robber. Sam feels it may be a trick but decides there is no other way around it. He even brings a rifle so the boy can learn how to shoot. Written by Michelle

I knew where the story was going as soon as Clint told Sam he could lead him to the outlaw. It didn't take too many brains to figure out what Sam and his deputy figured out - that Clint was leading him in for the kill. I figured Sam would find some way to convince the boy, and somehow I figured he would teach Clint how to shoot.

This has Lucas McCain written all over it. Remember the Rifleman episode when a boy's father died of a heart attack after John Hamilton told him he was repossessing the farm? Then the boy, Tim, swore to kill John Hamilton someday...Okay, so it's not exactly the same because it was Lucas McCain who taught Tim how to shoot, but I think Lucas probably thought the same thing Sam did - they both took a calculated risk.

I wish it were that easy to turn a hardened heart soft again. These days, it seems we see so many hardened hearts. Maybe if we go back to television of the yesteryear where the violence was black and white, we'd have less crowding in jails.
