Trivia

Regular writer Michele Fazekas was a producer's assistant on The X-Files (1993) and likes to include references to the show in her SVU episodes. For instance, in episode #4.15, "Pandora", a character was named after X-Files writer Vince Gilligan, and a pedophile used nick2shy as his online nickname to chat with children. "2Shy" was the nickname of a fat sucking monster in the episode of The X Files with this title. In episode #6.7, "Charisma", BD Wong's character George Huang's FBI badge number is given as 2317616, the same badge number as Agent Scully on The X Files, as told in its episode #5.7, "Christmas Carol". Wong was also the main guest in The X Files episode #3.19, "Hell Money". See more »

Goofs

Kate Logan identifies herself as being an officer of Europol. Europol doesn't actually have any investigative or enforcement authority, it simply exists to facilitate coordination and the exchange of information between the law enforcement authorities of EU member states, so Logan wouldn't have been authorized to conduct investigations or make arrests in the way that she did. Moreover, at the time this episode was filmed (2003), the Czech Republic was not yet a member of the EU, putting the country outside of Europol's jurisdiction. See more »

Quotes

Kate Logan: I'll never understand the pedophile's instinct to incriminate himself.

Clumsy, lazy writing

I have to agree with the Peter Hall's review.

This is a poor episode of an otherwise pretty good series.

The patronising and, frankly, insulting portrayal of the Czech Republic is a travesty. Any Czech watching this episode would probably wonder if the writers could be sued for such a pejorative and offensive distortion.

There are so many other little things wrong, too, which make it lack credibility.

Example : The supposed Europol detective/agent/employee is clearly meant to have an English accent rather than American, yet she says "entrepen-oor". Only somebody who spoke American English would use that pronunciation. The English pronounce it "entrepen-urr", as the French do.

It may seem trivial, but it's the lack of attention to minor details like this which draw attention to the clumsiness of the appalling clichés.

If you can suspend your disbelief to the required degree, you'll probably enjoy the episode, but I advise you to have a large pinch of salt handy to take it with.
