Storyline

Detectives Lennie Briscoe and Ed Green investigate an attack on a schizophrenic woman, Karen Brewster, in Riverside Park. They eventually find her dead, locked in the storage container she lived in. The medical examiner determines she was manually strangled and there is evidence of sexual activity, most likely rape. The investigation leads them to Harvey Bauer who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and is possibly psychotic. His lawyer Danielle Melnick wants to plead an insanity defense but Dr. Skoda is convinced Bauer is faking the psychotic part and ADA McCoy gets a court-ordered prohibition to using the defense. McCoy also needs a court order to force Bauer to take take his medication. As they continue to investigate however, they discover a unique relationship between Bauer sand the victim.
