A dud note
Prismark103 January 2017
This Christmas Special has guest star Norman Wisdom playing Billy Ingleton. A barmpot but he fancies himself as a concert pianist.

Lucky for Billy he comes across Foggy, Compo and Clegg who are helping Wesley to move a piano for Auntie Wainwright. Of course Clegg thinks even delivering something to Auntie Wainwright means they will end up buying something. Smiler who is working for Auntie Wainwright has been sent to find out what has happened to her piano even if it means he ends up paying for the privilege like a pound to borrow the bike.

Foggy convinced after Billy plays a few notes that he has a star in the making and becomes a concert promoter but all he has heard so far is Billy play a short piece and nothing else.

Eli turns up as a conductor of the local brass band hired for the concert but when Billy gets cold feet it is left to Compo to do a turn and save a day and maybe even get a kiss from Nora Batty.

A rather daft episode even for Summer Wine that a nobody like Billy Ingleton could sell out a concert. Did he have no rehearsals as to the tunes he was going to play so other could catch on? This is another long line of disappointing festive editions which were a long way away from Getting Sam Home.

The running joke between Marina and Howard meeting on the sly here wearing flying helmets and goggles was getting tiresome (I think I have mentioned this before) and even Auntie Wainwright's stinginess was reaching the end of the line.
