During a backstage scene at the American Television Awards, Larry encounters David Letterman and they discuss the difficulty of selecting hosts to run the shows that will air after each of their own shows. Larry confesses he wants Bobcat Goldthwait, an unconventional choice, and presses David to tell him who he is leaning towards. David states that he is leaning towards Tom Snyder. Snyder, a former newscaster in his late fifties at the time, would also have been considered an unconventional choice, prompting Larry to sarcastically ask if Snyder was selected because "Dick Cavett [was] tied up." However, in August 1994, a little over a year after this episode aired, CBS and Letterman announced that Snyder would be the host of the new Late Late Show airing after Letterman.
