The rangers round up the Slaughter gang and money they stole and turn them in to the jail at San Bara. While putting the money in the bank's secure vault, Reese and the rangers encounter Emma Bristow, a lady of culture, trying to obtain a loan to pay for her trip to California. The bank turns her down as her nightly shows on culture and art have not attracted a large following. Chad and Joe volunteer Reese to help her sell tickets which he does. During the show the Slaughters escape and the bank is robbed. Most think it was the Slaughters but a drunk witness says it was a different group. The rangers follow the tracks of the second gang but have to split up. Reese, alone, has his horse trip and injure itself. He meets Emma on the road in her wagon and uses it to track the men. Chad and Joe after the other part of the gang catch up with Reese as Emma apparently saves his life. They soon learn from the wounded man they were part of a bigger scheme. Written by Anonymous

Eve Arden Brings Culture to Laredo
18 October 2008 | by See all my reviews

After the "Slaughter Gang" robs a bank in San Sabo, the Rangers capture the bandits, and return their booty to the local bank. There, they meet culture-peddling Eve Arden (as Miss Em), who is refused for a bank loan. Ms. Arden impresses Reese (Neville Brand) with her flattery and ladylike manner. Reese, Chad (Peter Brown), and Joe (William Smith) devise a plan to help Arden sell tickets to her lecture on culture.

To sell tickets, a "hot tamale" from the "Silver Slipper" (Rita D'Amico as "Carlotta") is added to the program.

Arden lives this episode up considerably; and, her character's comic duplicity fits the show like a glove. The story, however, doesn't really rise above that of very ordinary episodic television. At the time, Arden's was a rare and welcome screen appearance. Veterans Myron Healey (as Sam Bolt) and Lyle Talbot (as the Sheriff) are other notable additions to the "Laredo" guest cast.
