Chad and Joe routinely take advantage of Reese. When a payroll is stolen by a group lead by French officers, they con Reese into spying on the them. His actions put him in front of a firing squad for which the men tell him he won a medal.

Joe and Chad are constantly pulling con jobs on Reese to trick him into taking all the grunt jobs. A payroll escorted by the Army is stolen by a group with military precision. Parmalee decides to set a trap for them but sends the three Rangers out by themselves to track the group down. They find the thieves which consists of French military officers and several Mexicon soldiers. Chad and Joe trick Reese into entering the camp as a spy. He does so successfully but the French officers are suspicious of him. He tells them Parmalee is ending another payroll to force the group to split up and allow Chad and Joe to find the missing payroll. The trick appears to work until Joe and Chad are caught followed by Reese being forced to help capture Parmalee. One of the officers decides Reese should be shot as a spy. However, the firing squad has been infiltrated by Chad and Joe who escaped. In the end they tell Reese Parmalee has a gold medal for him sent by the Governor. Written by Anonymous

Chad (Peter Brown) and Joe (William Smith) trick Reese (Neville Brand) into volunteering for a "special assignment" - cleaning out the stable. Then, Parmalee (Philip Carey) lets Chad and Joe go out on the more desirable task of securing an army payroll. After Chad and Joe lose the payroll to French soldiers, Reese joins them in fighting for its recovery. His fellow Rangers dupe Reese into believing that, following the mission, he is to receive the "Governor's Gold Medal", for bravery...

This episode is strong on characterization, but sloppily staged.
