From out of the past

This Laramie episode has someone coming from out of Jess Harper's days as a gunfighter. Rod Cameron who was something of a mentor to Robert Fuller back in the day gets into a gunfight and kills a man and is wounded himself. Wanted now Cameron needs Fuller to help get him and girlfriend Joan Tabor out of the territory. And Fuller feels he owes him.

The episode provides a stark contrast between how the years can change someone. Fuller has gone straight and now has a friendship with John Smith and is an integral part of Sherman ranch and stagecoach station. Cameron has grown meaner and nastier and is getting to enjoy the use of a gun for its own sake.

It's a fine character study and there's also a good performance by Dennis Patrick as a real bottom feeding bounty hunter.

I love when Jess asked Julie where was she from. She replied 'Memphis', my hometown. 💜 I was little girl the day this episode was shown. 💜😊💜

One of the best ones I've seen so far

Several good points in this one's favour. To start with, as a previous reviewer has commented, it demonstrates how people can change with the years and not always for the better. It also includes a little romance for Jess, albeit with someone else's wife/partner and also an estrangement , if only temporarily, between Jess and Slim, resulting in Jess actually being punched to the ground by Slim. These elements actually make a pleasant change from the predictable and shallow presentation of both men's characters and their relationship. This sort of thing gives added depth and variety, not to mention realism to the usual scenario in Laramie. I do wonder, by the way , why reviewers refer to the characters as John Smith and Robert Fuller rather than their fictional names!
